Onslow Victims Center is always looking for volunteers to help within our agency. Volunteers allow us to meet the needs of our clients by contributing their time and dedication to a great cause. Direct service volunteers would be trained as advocates before interacting with this vulnerable population.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Hospital Advocate:  The specially trained hospital advocate would be responsible for responding to the hospital or police station when a victim initially seeks assistance after the assault. The advocate would support the client navigate through the initial process, such as the medical/evidence examination or law enforcement report.

Safe House Volunteers: The specially trained Safe house volunteer would work as needed during the evenings and weekends to support clients, children's activities, and staff. Activities with the clients would help teach them about everyday responsibilities as adults including financial advice, parenting skills, community resources, and other tasks assigned. Activities for the children would include arts and crafts, movie time, reading time, and other tasks assigned.

Thrift Shore Workers:  These volunteers would assist the thrift store manager and associates in receiving and organizing new donations, merchandising and assisting in placing new articles out on the floor for sales. These volunteers might also help to straighten racks, make signs, and put prices on items.

Support Group Facilitator: These volunteers would lead a support group for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault once a month for an 1-2 hours. These volunteers are crucial in the healing process of victims and survivors and have to provide support during an emotional time.

Community Events: Outreach volunteers would assist OVC staff in planning, organizing, and staff community events. Events may consist of informational booths, street fairs, fundraising, educational presentations, distributing flyers and/or brochures, and domestic violence/sexual assault awareness events.

** All volunteers are encouraged to use their talents and gifts when they are volunteering!  If you have other skills that could benefit our mission, please let us know - we can use you! You can request to be cross trained for any volunteer roll at any time.  We want your experience as a volunteer at the Onslow Women’s Center to be both rewarding and enlightening! **
